A Man and His Plant
03:35
|
|||
A good man with a good heart
went down to the trash yard
and found a plant that was discarded to grow
Well he took home the withered plants
covered in filth and covered in ants
and washed it off to replant it and grow
Refrain:
Grow, grow you're not through yet
Grow, grow forget what they said
and grow, grow
You may be half dead, but you're half alive
So let's survive
We the little plant didn't take too long
its fruit became sweet and its roots became strong
and it started to sing a different song and grow
So the good man with a good heart
went back to the trash yard
to find the other plants (the world discarded)
and grow (refrain)
So maybe you don't dumpster dive
you stay real clean, and you stay inside
but if you did, what would you find to grow
like the good man with the good heart
we can do our share, we can do our part
and a world that seems to fall apart will grow
and we'll sing (refrain)

The Marionette
04:39
|
|||
a toy maker carved a marionette
as a sign of his love, as a sign of regret
I’ll teach her to dance, he said with a grin
and attached to her feet and her hands 4 strings
twisting his fingers and turning his hands
he made his beloved marionette dance
and when she was ready, he took her to town
and the marionette dance for everyone around
la la la la
la la la la
la la la la la la la la la
One afternoon in the market street
the marionette heard a song so sweet
no pirouettes or grand plies
had ever made her feel that way
"Oh toy maker," the marionette did say
"How I would love to sing one day!
Instead of doing a dance, I’d sing a song
and everyone could sing along (refrain)
"Silly doll," the toy maker replied
"you forget that to me you are still tied
by your fingers and feet, by those 4 strings
I made you to dance; you will not sing."
so the marionette continued to dance
until one night she took her chance
and did a most remarkable thing
she took a knife and cut the 4 strings
and when it was over, she couldn’t believe
she could still move her hands, she could still move her feet
and finally free from those 4 strings
she opened her mouth and began to sing (refrain)
for many years to this day
the marionette sings in the market place
day and night she sings her songs
and everyone sings along (refrain)

a young boy went to his father
and hungry he asked for a meal
but the father gave him nothing
and sent him instead out to steal
saying, “What kind of man do you think I am?”
the father said to his son
“For I’m hurting the same and you are to blame
so I'll teach you to trust no one”
the young boy went to his father
and asked him for shoes on his feet
but the father gave him nothing
and sent him to play in the street
saying, “What kind of man do you think I am?”
the father said to his son
“For I’m hurting the same and you are to blame
so I’ll teach you to trust no one”
so the young boy grew like his father
angry and bitter when he died
and in heaven when the Lord gave him all he had to offer
the young boy coldly declined
saying, “What kind of man do you think I am?”
to the Lord said his son
“For I’m hurting the same and you are to blame
I don’t trust you or trust anyone
for to You I will do how I’ve been done”

I once met an old man who was old, wrinkled and grey
If I had let my eyes decide, I would have walked away
His stories were of adventure, and mystery and love
And his crows feet grew from praying to the sky and Son above
the whiskey on his breath keeps him sober through the day
if I had let my eyes decide, I'd have had too much to say
I once met a woman with stains on all her clothes,
If I had let my eyes decide, I would have gone back home
She told me of the tears that have soaked her tattered skirt,
Her child is at school, and comes home to sleep in dirt
The coins that line her pockets feed the lining in her stomach
If I had let my eyes decide, I'd have thought quite little of it
I once met a gentle man with colors on his arm
If I had let my eyes decide, I'd have thought he meant me harm
He told me that his pictures were the still frames of his life
That gave him strength and character for his future, Christian wife
His hope is just to love the ones the world chose to ignore
If I had let my eyes decide, I would have wanted more
I once met a girl with a sweater for each season
If I had let my eyes decide, I'd have not asked for a reason
She told me that each sweater hides the scars on both her wrists
And her entourage of friends conceals the only one she'll miss
The pills will not stay down because she’s not sure where she’ll go
If I had let my eyes decide, I never would have known
I meet so many people but we never truly meet
I pass my judgment as I pass them on the street
I'd never ask them questions, I'd simply just assume
That the way the look today is who they were straight from the womb
If I had let my eyes decide, how would I see within
How can I find the heart of man, if all I see is skin

There and Back Again
02:51
|
|||
I have walked through the valley of the shadow
I have walked the trail of tears
But his love and goodness soon will follow
so death I will not fear
He’ll come again
He’ll come again
He’ll come and take me home
And until my Savior comes again
A stranger will I roam
I’ve been offered silver, I’ve been offered gold
I’ve been offered fortune and fame
but I hold no value in these earthly goods
for in rust they will pass away
when he comes again
he will come again
he’ll come and take me home
and until my savior comes again
a stranger will I roam
I have lived in plenty with the rich young man
I have lived on the widow’s sacrifice
I have found the secret to being content
in the peace of Jesus Christ
He’ll come again
He’ll come again
He’ll come and take me home
And until my Savior comes again
A stranger will I roam
